The Iranians are getting ready to break, maybe.

Gateway always runs some good links and video.  Here we have video of streets full of protesters attacking police stations and the like.  Why?  Because the Iranian professional military sent a letter stating that they had about had it with the shootings and beating of unarmed citizens, including women.  Here’s a Mao moment for the Iranian leaders- Those who have the guns have the power.

You can thank GWB for this.  For all the criticism he took for invading Iraq, it took only a glance at a world map to understand the geo-political strategy behind the invasion.  We have now pinched a not so strong regime which is holding their people hostage between two armies.  Our armies.  We have stayed the course in Iraq and shown the well educated but oppressed people of Iran what it looked like to be really free.  Yes, I understand Iraq is full of corruption, but so is Iran.  The difference is that in Iraq, they can stop the corruption tomorrow and demand change, something the Iranians cannot do, yet.  Further, the Iranians know their leaders are nutjobs.  They know they are being punished because they had the misfortune to be born in Iran.  The key is that they KNOW what is just beyond the border; the freedom, the opportunity, the hope.

The Iranian military is the key. If they stay on the sidelines the government will be forced to make significant changes.  If the military decides to jump in on the side of the people, it will be mullahs running for the door like rats jumping off a sinking ship.   I’m no expert in theocracies but I don’t see any outside the Middle East having a long shelf-life, especially in a nation filled with educated men and women.  They realize, as did our founding fathers and the people in the French Revolution, that a government dominated by a religion politically is fraught with danger.   The problem with God being in charge is that it isn’t really God, but men acting like gods.   We all know how that works out.

Hopefully, if the Iranians do bring down their government they will have learned from that same French Revolution and Maoist China and Russia, that just because you destroy the old regime doesn’t mean you have to replace it with chaos and anarchy.  The transition should begin immediately to a free citizen based government founded in laws and the rights of man.  Hey, I have an idea.  Somebody e-mail the Constitution to them.  With Obama around, we aren’t using it much right now anyhow.  Just make sure we send along a warning.

“This works well, if you remain vigilant and true to its message.”  “PS, no lawyers or Harvard grads should qualify as President.  Oh, and put in term limits.”

Just saying…
