It isn’t like they weren’t warned, or that we weren’t warned. Martin Niemoller spoke the words that all freedom loving citizens should take to heart.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out –
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out –
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out –
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.
The Catholic Church did this to themselves. Even knowing it I still feel like I should defend them. Many progressives in the Catholic Church who hooked their philosophy of charity to government taxation, regulation and programs, may be innocent of realizing if you dine with the devil, you will eventually end up being his supper. Or they many may have had this plan all along. The radicals have been infiltrating organized religion for a hundred years.
But what is done is done. Now we are in a pitched battle to save one of our fundamental rights, if even from the very hands that placed it in jeopardy in the first place.
What will happen if the HHS regulations are not rescinded? A Catholic institution, so far as I can see right now, will have one of four choices: 1) secularize itself, breaking its connection to the church, her moral and social teachings and the oversight of its ministry by the local bishop. This is a form of theft. It means the church will not be permitted to have an institutional voice in public life. 2) Pay exorbitant annual fines to avoid paying for insurance policies that cover abortifacient drugs, artificial contraception and sterilization. This is not economically sustainable. 3) Sell the institution to a non-Catholic group or to a local government. 4) Close down. …
Since 1915, the Catholic bishops of the United States have taught that basic health care should be accessible to all in a just society. Two years ago, we asked that whatever instruments were crafted to care for all, the Hyde and Weldon and Church amendments restricting funding for abortion and respecting institutional conscience continue to be incorporated into law. They were excluded. As well, the present health care reform act doesn’t cover entire sections of the U.S. population. It is not universal.
The provision of health care should not demand “giving up” religious liberty. Liberty of religion is more than freedom of worship. Freedom of worship was guaranteed in the Constitution of the former Soviet Union. You could go to church, if you could find one. The church, however, could do nothing except conduct religious rites in places of worship-no schools, religious publications, health care institutions, organized charity, ministry for justice and the works of mercy that flow naturally from a living faith. All of these were co-opted by the government. We fought a long cold war to defeat that vision of society.
1915… A long time wishing that government would somehow work with the Church, or more accurately replace the age old responsibility of the Church by taxing citizens- ALL citizens- in order to redistribute wealth to those who are considered needy- by the government. If someone ages ago thought of this plan, the old Church might have dismissed both the idea and the person who brought it forward as insane. To tie yourself to government by demanding government do certain things you think are proper and then to suddenly realize that the target is no longer the other guy but yourself is almost comical in a dark-hearted way. The Church should have known better. However, they were corrupted. Using the Church to push that agenda, through the force of taxation, is shameless- regardless of the intent. And now it has come back to bite them.
Alinsky headed up the Industrial Areas Foundation until his death and called it “a school for professional radicals.” It is now run by an ex-seminarian.
The Midwest Academy is run by two Alinsky-taught socialists. According to David Horowitz of the Freedom Center, the academy “teaches radical activists tactics of direct action, targeting, confrontation, and intimidation.” Midwest promotes itself as a school committed to progressive, social change.
PICO was founded in 1972 by a Jesuit priest who was trained in Alinsky techniques. It is a training school for activists. This year PICO has worked with other organizations “to encourage churchgoers to campaign for a government takeover of the nation’s healthcare system.”
Why is the Catholic Church supporting these radical organizations? Former Treasury Secretary William E. Simon, served on the board of the Capital Research Center and wondered the same thing. He complained in the late 1980’s that CCHD was funding “radical left-wing political activism in the United States, rather than traditional types of charities.”
I called the Archdiocese in Minnesota and asked to speak with someone who could tell me where exactly the money they collected in the name of CCHD was going. I was given a woman in the “Social Justice” department. She told me, “Yes, we DO give money to Gamaliel, PICO, and a few others. They do such good work.” As I told her about the “work” these organizations actually do, she hung up on me.
Hmmm….
Hmm… is right. This is just one of dozens and dozens of articles dealing with the progressive infiltration of the Church. And now, fork tails has turned on her. Progressive and Communists always eat their own, it is their nature. In Russia, those who spouted the Communist line but weren’t communists themselves, just sympathizers, were called “useful idiots“. The Church may not like the term, but if the frock fits… .
If it weren’t for the fact that once the Church goes everything will go quickly (due to its sheer size and influence) I would say too bad. But we can’t let the Church fail. Too much is at stake. If the first amendment is successfully crippled, how hard could it be to do the rest in. Just saying…
So as Beck puts it, “We are all Catholics now.” More importantly, we are all Americans now and this assault on our free will must stop.
