All generals are political, that is how they became generals in this era. Some are as honest as can be expected, others may be a little more shifty, like Michael Jackson moowalking backwards.
Petraeus may be somewhere in the middle. People keep saying he’s a great guy, good morals, good sense of duty. But apparently not. So, if he cheats, does he lie? Sure. The definition of cheating is lying, in this case to the woman who has shared your name for thirty-seven years. So, kinda sorta not mentioning that your CIA report you are reading to Congress isn’t exactly the same report your people handed you BEFORE it cycled through the White House, may not be a big lie.
It is all about perspective.
As one FOX source stated, Petraeus may have tried to moonwalk a thin railing on a fence last time by telling the congressmen, “Do you want the truth or the official line.” Frankly, that is a HUGE hint to them from Petraeus to not believe what he was about to say. But they are as shallow and incurious as most Americans, UNTIL the politics become involved. Had this died away, they would have “Oh well”-ed it and moved on.
So imagine if Republicans didn’t run the House! We’d not know what we know today and the whole mess would be swept under a rug. The same rug they are continuously trying to throw over it anyhow. The facts keep changing, but the truth remains constant. Anybody with common sense knows exactly what happened, and like the pole in a tetherball game, we are center where the wildly swinging ball of political coverup bullhockey is slowly wrapping itself around. Sooner or later it will come twisting up tight to the pole and we’ll know what happened.
The question is, after months of it, even if we know the truth will anyone care?
Today, Petraeus did his best to walk the line instead of tell the whole truth. Why? He’s retired and wants to keep his 175,000 a year or so income. You know and I know the old line that if you go after the king you had better slay him, because if you don’t he’ll come after you. Obama survived his political coup. Nothing Petraeus can say will change that. He could have Iphone audio and video of Obama scratching out the report saying terrorists did it while yelling “Oh hell no! Romney’s not getting that on me!” and it won’t make a difference.
Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., told Fox News that intelligence officials who testified in a closed-door hearing a day earlier, including Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Acting CIA Director Mike Morell, said they did not know who changed the talking points. He said they went out to multiple departments, including the State Department, National Security Council, Justice Department and White House.
“To me the question right now is who changed those talking points and why. … I’d say it was somebody in the administration had to have taken it out,” King told Fox News. “That, to me, has to be pursued.”
Petraeus left Capitol Hill around noon, after testifying in private hearings before the House and Senate intelligence committees. In his wake, Republicans and Democrats battled over whether his testimony should raise more suspicions about the administration’s handling of the attack.
King and other Republicans indicated they still have plenty of questions about the aftermath of the strike.
“No one knows yet exactly who came up with the final version of the talking points,” he said.
Petraeus’ testimony both challenges the Obama administration’s repeated claims that the attack was a “spontaneous” protest over an anti-Islam video, and according to King conflicts with his own briefing to lawmakers on Sept. 14. Sources have said Petraeus, in that briefing, also described the attack as a protest that spun out of control.
Yep, moonwalking back to Tampa with is pay intact and his marriage to repair. Or maybe living alone on half salary and alimony payments due every month.
Should have thought it through before he unbuckled his pants. It would have made a huge difference to him, his family, us and those dead Americans.
Especially those dead Americans.
