Time to start practicing in front of the mirror your “I’m shocked, shocked I tell you! There’s terrorism afoot in America?!” speech.
—Now members of Congress want to know how someone who was brought to the attention of authorities and who exhibited increasingly radical leanings never came under further monitoring or questioning.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein announced Monday that the Senate Intelligence Committee she heads will look into the FBI’s handling of Tsarnaev.
The hearing with FBI intelligence officials, expected to be closed to the public and media, could happen as soon as Tuesday, said Feinstein, D-California.
An aide to the House Homeland Security Committee said its chairman, Republican Rep. Mike McCaul of Texas, also intended for the panel to examine the issue.
The Tsarnaev case raised questions about the efficiency of overall security efforts, particularly involving people brought to the attention of federal authorities.
Tsarnaev, who died after a shootout with police on Thursday night, was an immigrant from the volatile Caucasus region of southwest Russia who had legal residence in the United States and sought last year to become fully naturalized, like his brother Djhokhar, 19.
However, the Department of Homeland Security rejected the citizenship request due to his past questioning by the FBI before a trip to Russia.
An FBI statement said a foreign government — later identified by legislators as Russia — asked for information on Tsarnaev “was based on information that he was a follower of radical Islam and a strong believer, and that he had changed drastically since 2010 as he prepared to leave the United States for travel to the country’s region to join unspecified underground groups.”
Hmmm…. Do I think I know what happened? You bet.
….Training must emphasize that no investigative or intelligence collection activity may be based solely on race, ethnicity, national origin, or religious affiliation. Specifically, training must focus on behavioral indicators that have a potential nexus to terrorist or criminal activity, while making clear that religious expression, protest activity, and the espousing of political or ideological beliefs are constitutionally protected activities that must not be equated with terrorism or criminality absent other indicia of such offenses. ….
Uh, what? Remember, the DOJ pushed the redefinition and elimination of the words terrorism and such from the training manuals. Not because there isn’t any, but because it made CAIR happy. And of course the Left happy.
Following their logic, I could eliminate all murders by redefining murder as only applying to the deaths of one-legged, club footed midgets. BoooYahhh! One stroke of a pen and there are no murders, and more importantly, no murderers!
That is what Obama’s people did. That is what they will attempt to hide. That is what one agent/officer in Boston knew to be true and who leaked the file to start the discussion. It will be up to any brave soul in Congress to hold the administration’s feet to the fire.
The terrorists aren’t going to stop, no matter how many times you redefine their horrible acts.
Update: It gets worse. Seems DHS didn’t want the older brother to become a citizen because if its concerns over the FBI investigation. Remember, these are people making these decisions based on rules and policies, but they are still people with instincts. Somebody over at DHS took a look and went “aaah, maybe not.” Thank goodness.
Oh, but the way, not for nuthin’ pal- as my New York PD friend used to say- wouldn’t Roadkill’s trip abroad be revealed in his citizen application in September? Here is part of the application process. Seems if you marry someone who is a citizen for three years you can be moved to the front of the line, which may give rise to a question of why he married who he did when. And it seems you have to be here for three years without leaving the country for six months or longer. Now I have to ask, did he list his exit? Was it checked by Homeland. He does have a passport that gets stamped right? “Hey Roadkill, do you have your passport with you? Let me see it.” I mean simple right? So how did they miss it?
Maybe the whole, “we didn’t know because of the spelling” thing is bull?
