Oprah’s newest tale of racism. The clerks speaks out.

Apparently, Oprah has made claims of racism before- as she is a self made billionaire.  I know…I know…   She now says some clerk in Switzerland didn’t let her see an expensive bag because Oprah was black.  Now the clerk speaks out and says no way it happened the way it did.

The sales clerk who was accused of racism by Oprah Winfreyand prompted a national apology from Switzerland claims that Winfrey is lying about the now-famous story.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the nameless women at the center of the firestorm told a local newspaper that as a result of the accusation, she has been thrust into a “nightmare” and now feels “powerless.”

“I don’t know why she is making these accusations. She is so powerful, and I am just a shop girl,” the sales clerk told the Swiss newspaper SonntagsBlick.

Earlier this month, Winfrey told Larry King that while she was in Switzerland, a sales clerk at a boutique store in the area refused to show her a handbag that cost $38,000, allegedly because the clerk thought Winfrey couldn’t afford the bag due to the color of her skin.

“I say to the woman, ‘I would like to see that bag on the shelf.’ And she says, ‘No, that one’s too expensive. I’ll show you this one.’ She did,” Winfrey said in the interview. However, Winfrey never revealed the name of the store, although papers have since claimed it was Trois Pomme in Zurich.

However, the incident didn’t go down like that, according to the clerk.

“This is not true. This is absurd. I would never say something like that to a customer. Really, never. Good manners and politeness are the Alpha and the Omega in this business,” the woman said to SonntagsBlick, claiming that she even asked Winfrey if she wanted to look at the bag and that Winfrey had the chance to complain to the clerk’s boss.

Wow, could it be Oprah sees the spectre of racism where none exists?  Let’s look at the situation overall.  1- The clerk is in an expensive store, in an expensive city, in an expensive nation.  Why would she think a well dressed woman of culture in front of her was not of means?  Do they not have rich black women or Asian women or Hispanic women come into that store before?  Remember, Switzerland harbors a lot of foreign money, including money from people who live in Third World locations.  So a well spoken American black woman would not be thought of as poor, expect in the MIND of that black woman- who occupied a seat in Rev. Wright’s church for decades.

I’m going with the clerk here. She has no agenda.  She would not survive in a store that caters to all of the mega rich for very long if she was acting in a racist manner.

It could have been a misunderstanding between two people one over a language barrier the other through the prism of racism.

And the clerk gets hammered for something she didn’t do and a nation apologizes for a non-event.

Obama’s new world.

Great…

Update:  Oprah doesn’t impress the Swiss one bit and they tend to bite back when insulted. It seems Oprah DID see racism where none existed and is now being schooled by the owner of the store.

The owner of the upscale Swiss boutique where Oprah Winfrey claimed she was barred from buying a $38,000 by a ‘racist’ sales assistant today demanded to speak to the star she branded ‘over-sensitive’ and insisted her employee did ‘everything right’.

The rather fearsome-looking Trudi Goetz said she wanted to speak with the talk show billionairess ‘as soon as possible’ and also revealed her petrified member of staff will not be sacked or punished.

She said: ‘I don’t know why she talked of racism.  I am sorry, but perhaps she is being a little over-sensitive here.  Maybe she was somewhat offended because she was not immediately recognized in the store.’ ….

…Meanwhile, Frau Goertz said today: ‘For God’s sake, no! I do not judge people according to their skin color, nor according to their income. I treat everyone equally. And I also expect my employees to do the same.’

MailOnline has learned that the saleslady in question is Italian, aged 37, and was not a full-time employee of the ritzy Trois Pommes shop in Zurich where the incident took place – but she was sent there from the sister-store in upscale St. Moritz to help out.

Now it is unclear where she is as she lies low in fear of ‘public hatred’.  …  (editor note here- shame on us for creating the thought that if we challenge the black meme we need to fear anyone.)

Goetz, who was ironically also a guest at the wedding of Tina Turner – the reason why Oprah was in the country, has been left to speak for her.

‘It’s absurd,’ she said. ‘Oprah came into the business, wanted to see the crocodile bag. She inquired about the price. When my saleswoman told her that it cost 35,000 francs and then offered to show her cheaper ones, she walked away. …

And in a possible slap to Oprah’s diva tendencies, she added: ‘That is something that international stars appreciate in our country – that you leave them in peace.’ …

Schooled!

You see how bad and easy it has gotten for anyone of color to see ghosts where none exist?  And for the clerk to be in fear?

As I said back in 2008, “a bad man in a powerful position can do great harm. Not for just what he can do, but for what others can do in his name.”

And we are not nearly done sadly.
