It may have been a bad shoot, we don’t know. However, as the facts are still murky, the usual suspects took advantage of situation and did serious damage. Honestly, it’s hard to be on the side of the young black male who is innocent of wrong doing, when his ilk run amok.
A gas station was looted, and police called for additional units to back up officers already on the street, said Brian Schellman, spokesman with the St. Louis County Police Department.
Video from the scene showed police in riot gear. No injuries were immediately reported.
“They are sending in more officers to try and get the situation under control,” Schellman said.
Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson said that at least 20 police cars were damaged and that the use of tear gas was a high possibility.
A friend and witnesses say Missouri teen Michael Brown was unarmed and had his hands in the air when a Ferguson police officer shot and killed him, but that account is in dispute.
“The genesis of this was a physical confrontation,” Jon Belmar, chief of the St. Louis County Police Department, said at a Sunday news conference.
The officer tried to leave his vehicle just before the shooting on Saturday afternoon, but Brown pushed him back into the car, “where he physically assaulted the police officer” and struggled over the officer’s weapon, Belmar said.
The officer, if he is white, is screwed. The DOJ under Holder will get him either way. We all remember Zimmerman, this is twice as bad.
All that said, in one of the posts highlighting the riots, I have to point out something that might make you pause when you go to judge why the police have such itchy fingers in certain situations. First, we aren’t paid to get killed by some thug. That’s not in any contract. On the other hand, shooting first is becoming far to frequent. In all that confusion of what is right and what is wrong is what is the reality of the environment on the ground. The thugs running amok, stealing, looting, robbing, and shooting at the first opportunity reinforces what the police know and most people don’t. The film that covers what appears to be a civil society is very, very thin.
Don’t believe me, look at the photo.
Notice what the somewhat fat, head covered, pants down to the butt crack young African American is carrying? Yep, a gun. Which is why the police react the way they do. As the website points out, the irony is inescapable.
